About Us

FLO (Fair, Local, Organic) Food is a student-run organization at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

We participate in a broader network of student organizations on campuses across the United States called the Real Food Challenge. The network is dedicated to increasing institutional sourcing of sustainable food. For more information, please visit realfoodchallenge.org.

Our mission:
We are a campus organization committed to educating students about the food system and creating a better food economy at the
University of North Carolina.
We base our definition of sustainable food around three ideals whose intersection indicate systematic health of a food system.

Fair
We support fair food for all individuals involved in production and consumption.
Local
We support food purchases that prioritize the welfare of local economies. Prioritizing local economies entails consideration of all aspects of the food chain including production, processing, distribution, and consumption. FLO Food defines “local” for a given product as the closest available community-based food producer to UNC.
Organic
We support sustainable agricultural practices that are environmentally conscious. Environmentally conscious practices seek to promote biodiversity, maintain the integrity and coexistence of ecosystems and farming communities, and overall minimize the impact of agriculture on the natural environment.
